Seminar about "Paradigm Shift in University Student Learning" held in the faculty of Computing in Rabigh

Dr. Jamilin Bin Jaisl presented a seminar in the faculty of computing and Information technology in Rabigh about Paradigm Shift in University Student Learning on Monday 21/3/2011 at 12:00 noon.
The following is a brief about the seminar:
PBL: Problem-based learning is a student-centered learning pedagogy used in many medical schools in UK, US and worldwide in which students learn about a subject by solving problems. Working in groups, students use triggers from the problem case or scenario to define their own learning objectives’. Then students will identify what they already know, what they need to know, and how and where to access new information that may lead to resolution of the problem. Thus, PBL is not about problem solving per se, but rather it uses appropriate problems to increase knowledge and understanding. The process is clearly defined, and the several variations that exist all follow a similar series of steps. Group learning facilitates not only the acquisition of knowledge but also several other desirable attributes, such as communication skills, leadership, teamwork, problem solving, independent responsibility for learning, sharing information, and respect for others. The role of the lecturer is that of facilitator of learning who provides appropriate scaffolding of that process, asking probing questions, providing appropriate resources, and leading class discussions, as well as designing student assessments.
