Dr. Daut Daman presented a seminar about "The Future and challenges of computing graduates:  KSA compared with selected countries" in Computing and Information Technology Faculty at Rabigh on Monday 18/4/2011 at 12:00 noon. The following is the brief of the seminar:

Trying to forecast the future of computing is always hazardous. It may be particularly hazardous at a time when many aspects of the discipline are being questioned and even threatened. Here, one perspective on the future of computing in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), as an area of study in the horizon to about 5 years (up to year 2011) will be presented.
Computing and IT Graduate opportunities in Saudi Arabia tend to be restricted to those with specific professional qualifications, experience and skills. With the fast growing number of computer users such as internet users in KSA, the shortage of occupations in computing and IT related professionals are in most demand. Many professionals of non-Saudi nationals work in KSA due to the shortage of computing and IT skills professionals of Saudi nationals.

To overcome the shortages, many government or private universities and colleges in Saudi Arabia offer computing and IT related courses at undergraduate level. The fast growing number of students registering for Computing and IT related course leads to the discussion about the challenge of Computing and IT graduates of KSA to the demand of job markets in KSA compared to selected countries in the world. Issues like: will the universities prepare the right curriculum to overcome professional shortages and will the student’s willingness to accept skills shortages are among the topics covered in the seminar.
